Evidence-Based Chiropractic Care Built Around How You Move

I believe good chiropractic care starts with understanding the whole person, not just the painful area. My goal is to understand how you move, identify what's contributing to your pain or dysfunction, and give you the tools to move better and feel better.

My path to chiropractic was shaped by my own experiences with healthcare. After unsuccessful experiences with orthopedic and physical therapy care, I saw people close to me find relief through chiropractic. Those experiences showed me how valuable it can be to look at the body from a different perspective, and ultimately led me to a career where I could help others do the same.

I see chiropractic as an opportunity to take a truly holistic look at health and movement. While I focus on the musculoskeletal system, I also consider how factors like nutrition, hormones, and other internal systems may influence how someone feels and functions.

My philosophy is simple: Understand how you move, find what needs to change, and give you the tools to keep making progress.

I rely heavily on biomechanics and rehabilitation exercise to help patients improve pain, movement, and function. Depending on what you need, care may include joint manipulation or mobilization, soft tissue therapy, dry needling, and rehabilitation exercise. I also incorporate Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS) principles into my rehabilitation approach.

Most importantly, I want you to understand what's happening with your body and why we're recommending a particular approach. Your first visit starts with a conversation about what brought you in, followed by a comprehensive examination of your movement and mechanics. We'll discuss what I find, your options, and the plan that makes the most sense for your goals.

Whether you're an athlete trying to get back on the field, an active adult wanting to keep doing the things you love, or simply looking for a better understanding of your pain, your goals guide our care.

Areas of Special Interest

Helping You Move Better and Stay Active

Although I work with a variety of musculoskeletal conditions, I particularly enjoy helping athletes and active people recover from injuries, improve how they move, and build the strength and confidence to stay active.

Athletic Injuries

I especially enjoy working with athletes and active people, particularly lower-extremity injuries. Every injury presents a unique biomechanical puzzle, and I enjoy figuring out what needs to change to help you return to what you love.

Movement & Rehabilitation

Rehabilitation exercise is the foundation of much of my care. I enjoy helping patients understand how their bodies move and giving them practical tools to build strength, improve movement, and maintain their progress outside the office.

Life Beyond the Clinic

Dr. Besse with her husband

My husband, Alex, and I come from large blended families, so there is rarely a shortage of family or activity in our lives. I love anything athletic and will try just about any sport. I could talk gymnastics and running all day, although I find something interesting about every sport.

My faith is also an important part of my life. When I'm not being active, you might find me spending time with family, enjoying time with my faith community, or binge-watching a good TV show. And if my husband and I are going out to eat, there's a good chance we're at Miller's on Main in Columbia.

And if I could choose anywhere for a vacation? Hawaii. No follow-up questions.
